Editorial Process

The INNOVACADEMIA editorial process is structured into five stages to ensure the quality, relevance, and pertinence of the content of published articles. Our journal is committed to maintaining a rigorous and transparent editorial process to provide articles, essays and reviews that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the educational field.

1.- Submission and Evaluation of Proposals

Authors submit their work through the INNOVACADEMIA journal website. Once received, the editorial committee conducts a preliminary evaluation to verify that the content aligns with the educational theme and the journal's guidelines. Subsequently, all works are checked using the iThenticate software. The result of the scan from this tool is crucial in deciding whether the work moves on to the next stage.

Note: When a member of the editorial committee or team decides to submit a paper for publication, the editorial process is adjusted to maintain integrity and impartiality. In these cases, the article follows the same rigorous procedure established for all submissions, but it is coordinated by a guest editor, external to the institution, who will oversee the editorial process to ensure adherence to ethical standards and prevent any conflict of interest. The guest editor supports transparency and fairness in the evaluation and review of the article, ensuring that the highest levels of ethics are maintained throughout the publication process. Their involvement includes the preliminary review of the work, the selection of reviewers, and the supervision of the article's editing and formatting.

2.- Peer Review

Each work that passes the editorial committee's evaluation is sent to two reviewers who are experts in the subject matter. The review process is single-blind, where the reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. Each reviewer evaluates the work according to the corresponding rubric for each type of article. Once the review is complete, the reviewers send their comments to the editorial committee, which makes a decision on the acceptance, rejection, or need for modifications of the article. At this stage, if modifications are required, the authors are notified and given a specific deadline to make them. The reviewers may request that the work be sent back to them to verify that the comments have been addressed. If the opinions of the two reviewers are opposed, a third reviewer will be sought for an additional evaluation.

3.- Editing / Review

Accepted papers move on to the editing stage, where the writing and style of the text are refined, ensuring that it meets the journal’s guidelines and adheres to APA standards, 7th edition. The edited work is then returned to the editorial committee, which forwards it to the next stage.

4.- Design / Layout

The graphic designer prepares the work for digital publication, following the predefined template based on the type of text: scientific article, review article, or essay. Once the document is ready, it is sent to the editorial committee, which forwards it to the author for review of the final version and to obtain their approval. After the author approves the work, the editor conducts a final review and sends it to the publication stage, where it is scheduled according to the journal's calendar.

5.- Publication / Dissemination

INNOVACADEMIA issues are published on the digital platform and disseminated through various channels, such as social media, email, the official university website, and collaborations with other Higher Education Institutions.

Authors can track the editorial process and identify the stage of their work. It is important to note that the entire editorial process takes approximately twelve weeks at most after the submission.
