Abstract

Graduate researcher training today faces a structural imperative: contemporary science is produced in networks. This essay argues that international collaboration, primarily embodied in the figure of an external co-advisor, constitutes not only a strategy for academic visibility, but an essential pedagogical component in the training of high-level researchers. Drawing on current bibliometric evidence and an analysis of major institutional evaluation systems, it examines the impact of cross-border co-authorship on citation impact, integration into global scientific networks, and university rankings positioning. The main academic mobility funding programs available to Mexican graduate students are identified, along with the strategic role of language proficiency in this process. The essay concludes with a practical proposal directed at students themselves.
